I Never Saw Another Butterfly

Our students, after reading the book and seeing the play "Hana's Suitcase", were astounded that so many children lost their lives during the Holocaust, and they wanted to do something to remember them. So our participation in the Butterfly Project began. We discussed and looked through the book "I Never Saw Another Butterfly" by Hana Volavkova (based on a poem by one of the children, Pavel Friedman), which is a collection of poems and drawings by children who lived in the concentration camp in Terezin (the same camp that Hana Brady, the subject of Hana's Suitcase, was sent to).

Our students have created their own butterflies, and submitted them to The Butterfly Project at the Holocaust Museum Houston, to be part of the exhibition. Below is a slideshow of their butterflies.
